The creation of The Eight Year Plan finds me at an extra
special time: 1 month into my engagement to my childhood sweetheart and
boyfriend of nearly 6 years. For me, the near future will bring a first home, a
wedding, a honeymoon, a graduation… and that is just the first 3 years. The
following five will be career, children, minivan(!) and hopefully not
regretting jumping in so soon, so young, so rose tinted glasses.
If you’re after cringey first dates; one night stands; new relationship stories and the step by step guide to tinder then I’m afraid my blog will make poor reading. My man is my one and only; I have had 1 first kiss, 1 sexual partner, 1 first date, 1 love story.
On the other hand, my story is not a boring one, and if history tells me anything it is that I will continue to have my own hurdles to jump, insecurities to get over, and a whole lot of wedding planning to do. We have been in love since the moment we saw each other, and although I am a cynic in almost every other aspect of my life, I do thoroughly believe that we are meant to be. We have been through a lot – breaks, break ups, long distance, temptations, doubts, disease – but the one thing that has got us through it all, is the love we hold and the mutual decision to make that our priority. In his proposal and my acceptance, there was the decision to make that love come above all else in our lives.

In a way, I have already achieved the first step of The
Eight Year Plan. I have my man, and he has proposed. But on this end of the
plan, there is plenty of reminiscing to be done and much more coming my way.
Although it’s true – I won’t be joining the masses who are, at this moment, planning
and primping for a night out on the look out for love, being young and free and
living the fresher life; I will be staring at my engagement ring, watching the
wedding scenes from Friends and The Office USA, and probably eating pasta
(because let’s face it, some aspects of the student life are universal).
